There is certainly no shortage of point and shoot cameras on the market today. There are also plenty of housing choices for these versatile little powerhouses. This is great news for those looking to get into underwater photography who do not wish to purchase or simply cannot afford a housed DSLR system.

As with SLR housings, point and shoot housings are available in a wide price range from the less expensive plastic housings, right up to the precision machined alluminum housings. In most cases both option offer access to most of the camera's controls while underwater. The big differnce here would be the added durability of the metal housings while the plastic housings are ussualy less expensive and often wiegh less. Another consideration may be the optics included with the housing. The finer the glass on the housing's lens port, the better quality image it will produce.
